When I was a child, I used to race home for a warm lunch and a new episode of The Flintstones. One of my favourite episodes featured the “Happy Anniversary” song with Barney Rubble rocking the piano and Bedrock’s finest police officers providing the harmony. Yes, some anniversaries are filled with laughter, music and celebration. And then, there is “the other kind” of anniversary characterized by a sense of loss and sober reflection.
Today is the fifth anniversary of my accident. I now know that on January 7, 2011, I left the old Krysia on highway 401. To be honest, it is difficult to believe that I am still dealing with the aftermath. I thought, for sure, that, by now, the accident would have been far behind me, in the proverbial “rear view mirror” of my life’s story. This, of course, is self-judgement and a slippery slope to more sadness and grief. So, today, I am starting with the redefinition:
Just for the moment,
I refrain from judging myself for the territory I have not yet triumphed over.
I congratulate myself on the challenges I have overcome and the life lessons learned.
In honour of this redefinition, here is a fifth anniversary tribute to my top 5 life lessons learned:
5)Gratitude is magical. Even in your darkest moments, your mind can only focus on one thing at a time. When I think of the amazing support system in my life, the bright stars who believe in me and provide exceptional assistance, gratitude fills my heart with light and makes me smile. I have learned that when difficult things happen, God sends in the finest souls to lend a helping hand.
4)Extreme self-care really works. Wear silk pajamas. Buy yourself flowers. Listen to calming music. Look at yourself in the mirror and express your self-love and admiration (yes, do it!). Never forget that you are the biggest star in your universe. After all, God only creates masterpieces.
3)Nourishing food is more powerful than any combination of pharmaceuticals. In 2015, I reversed 2 major health issues with the combination of nutrition, relentless positive attitude and chiropractic adjustments. I have “before and after” lab tests to prove it! Stay tuned for my upcoming post on reversing type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
2)Spectacular Chiropractic care has saved my life. Did you know that chiropractic adjustments facilitate the body to heal itself naturally? I am a walking/talking advertisement for the effectiveness of a well-planned, well-executed, continually evolving chiropractic treatment plan. Stay tuned for more information on the healing power of chiropractic adjustments.
And, finally, #1..
1)Never take anything or anyone for granted. LIFE IS PRECIOUS.
So, thank God that I am alive! Happy anniversary to me! Looking forward to walking through my field of sunshine and sunflowers as I embrace many healthy and happy things, just on the horizon.
